Zhenyuan Ancient Town, located in Guizhou Province, is an area rich in cultural and historical significance. Zhenyuan has a history stretching back over 2,000 years and is known for its unique architectural styles. The town is divided by the Wuyang River into two parts: Old Fuzhen in the north and Old Weizhen in the south, each part featuring its own distinctive character and charm. This division of the town by the river adds to its picturesque nature and is a key highlight for visitors.

A major attraction in Zhenyuan is the Black Dragon Cave, an ancient temple complex on Zhonghe Mountain. This complex includes pavilions, temples, shrines, and palaces, offering a glimpse into a rich historical past. The architecture of these buildings harmonizes with the natural landscape, showcasing a blend of Confucian, Taoist, and Buddhist elements. The complex is recognized for its simple yet elegant architectural style.

The Wuyang River Scenic Area is another major highlight. The river flows through the Miaoling Mountains, offering stunning views of gorges, peaks, and waterfalls. Visitors can either walk along the river or take a cruise to fully appreciate the natural beauty of the area. The Wuyang Three Gorges, consisting of the Dragon King Gorge, East Gorge, and West Gorge, are particularly noteworthy for their scenic beauty.

Zhenyuan is an ideal destination throughout the year due to its mild and humid climate. The town is accessible by train from Guiyang and Kaili, making it convenient for travelers. At night, Zhenyuan transforms with illuminated historic buildings and performances that display the local ethnic culture. The town is also known for its cuisine, especially the Sour Fish Soup, a locally favored delicacy.
