Taipan village, under the jurisdiction of Taijiang County, Qiandongnan Prefecture, Guizhou Province. In the summer of 2022, the “VBA” event held in Taijiang County’s Tai Pan Village became an internet sensation. The event took place at the village entrance basketball court, organized by the villagers, with participants mainly being villagers themselves, bringing significant attention to the village.

The history of Tai Pan Village hosting basketball games dates back to 1936. Since then, villagers have been organizing various sports events such as bullfighting and bird fighting during the annual “June 6th” New Rice Festival, with basketball being the most widely participated and recognized sport, thus being passed down through generations.

As of now, the “VBA” competition has temporarily concluded. However, this event has broken many stereotypes about sports competitions, showing a fresh, dynamic, and vibrant aspect of sports. It is deeply rooted in the local culture and has become ingrained in people’s minds and lives, building emotional connections between people, villages, and basketball, and enriching our shared cultural foundation.

The “VBA” showcases a thriving and prosperous socialist new rural scene, reflecting the glorious achievements of Qiandongnan’s “Golden Decade” of rapid development. It is a tribute from the people to the beautiful and happy life of the new era.
