Stone Village is a typical Buyi ethnic village known for its stone architecture, located about 6 kilometers south of the Huangguoshu Waterfall and predominantly inhabited by families with the surname Wu. Legend has it that a Buyi person surnamed Wu came to this area 600 years ago, and the village gradually developed from there. Currently, the village has 200 households with over 1,000 residents.

The streets of Stone Village are paved with stones, and the courtyard walls and houses are built from stone. The roofs are covered with thin stone slabs, and even household items such as tables, stools, basins, grinding stones, reefs, and stoves are made of stone. Visiting the village, one experiences a close connection with stone everywhere: climbing stone steps, passing through stone gates, entering stone houses, and sitting on stone benches. Every man in the village is skilled in stonemasonry, a craft passed down through generations.

The homeowners are mostly from the Buyi ethnic group. The entire village is devoid of bricks and tiles, with houses surrounded by stone walls and roofs made of slate. The interior partitions are also built of stone, as are the courtyard walls, village pathways, the bridge in front of the village, and the terraced fields’ retaining walls. Household utensils such as mortars, grindstones, bowls, troughs, and jars are all made of stone. Visiting here feels like entering a “stone kingdom.”

Stone Village is nestled against a mountain and near water, surrounded by beautiful and tall mountains. In front of the village, fields stretch far and wide, while behind it, lush trees provide shade. Beside the village, a wide stone river flows, its water so clear that the bottom is visible and schools of fish can often be seen chasing each other. Over the river, there’s a stone bridge with five arches, more than 30 meters long and 5 meters wide. The stone houses of the village, interspersed with bamboo groves and fruit trees along the riverbanks, shine under the sunlight like white clouds scattered among the green mountains and waters, forming a unique and beautiful rural landscape.
