The old site of the Qiandong Special District Revolutionary Committee is located in Tudiwan, Qiaojia Town, Yanhe Tujia Autonomous County. The site faces west and is built with brick and wood, covering an area of about 400 square meters. The plaque bearing the name “Old Site of the Qiandong Special District Revolutionary Committee” hangs above the main building and was inscribed by Liao Hansheng, the political commissar of the Ninth Division of the Red Third Army.

From July 21 to 22, 1934, the first Workers, Peasants, and Soldiers Soviet Congress of the Qiandong Special District was held here. The congress was attended by 135 representatives from Yan, Yin, and De counties and the Red Army. It officially established the Qiandong Special District Revolutionary Committee, composed of over 80 members, and elected Sun Xiuliang as chairman, with Qin Yuqing and Chen Zhenguo as vice-chairmen. The meeting was presided over by Xia Xi, secretary of the Western Hunan-Hubei Central Bureau of the CCP and chairman of the Revolutionary Military Committee of the Xiang-E-Chuan-Qian Border Region.

The old site of the Qiandong Special District Revolutionary Committee records the Red Third Army’s overcoming adversity and ensuring safety, and it stands as a testament to the strategic transfer of the Central Red Army. Marshal He Long remarked in his memoirs, “Without this base, the Sixth Army would have had no objective and could not have found the troops, and the outcome would have been unimaginable.”

In May 2006, the old site of the Qiandong Special District Revolutionary Committee was designated by the State Council as a national key cultural heritage protection unit. In March 2010, the provincial party committee and government designated it as a provincial patriotic education base.
