The Shuanghe Cave, hitherto Asia’s longest, has been found to be 409.9 kilometers long and 912 meters deep, making it the third longest cave in the world, said researchers.

Being the longest dolomite cave with the largest celestine area in the world, the Shuanghe Cave has been termed a “karst natural cave museum.”

The karst cave was uncovered in the late 1980s, and since then, a series of large surveys have been jointly carried out by Chinese and foreign researchers. In the past 30 years, Shuanghe Cave had experienced 19 scientific investigations by both domestic and international researchers and experts. Numerous karst caves, waterfalls, rivers, creatures and animal fossils were discovered in the cave, which contributed a lot to the geological and biological research.
