The Zongxihe Bridge of Hangzhou-Ruili Expressway is located over the Zongxi River within Nayong County, spanning a total length of 928 meters, with a main arch span of 360 meters, and the bridge deck standing 270 meters above the river surface.

As a pioneering example of a large-span, upper-bearing steel tube concrete arch bridge in the mountainous and canyon areas of Guizhou, the Zongxi River Grand Bridge is China’s first steel tube concrete truss arch bridge utilizing bolt-welded joints. The development of new bolt-welded joints addressed challenges related to transportation in mountainous areas, limited space, and delamination of steel tube concrete, making a pioneering contribution to the flourishing development of steel tube concrete arch bridges in Guizhou and the southwestern mountainous regions. In 2018, the Zongxi River Grand Bridge was awarded the highest quality award in national highway construction for 2016 to 2017 — the “Li Chun Award” (High-Quality Project in Highway Transportation).

Spanning rivers and soaring through the air, the Zongxi River Grand Bridge serves as a vital link, making the journey home for surrounding villagers no longer distant or difficult. It connects regional economic development and has become a “bridge to prosperity,” aiding in rural revitalization and the export of goods from Guizhou.

The area around the bridge is a planting zone for Nayong’s “Agate Red” cherries. With improved transportation conditions, the cherry harvest season attracts a continuous stream of visitors for cherry picking, sightseeing, and business, significantly increasing the income of local villagers.
