Guiyang National High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was established in 1992 with the approval of the State Council. It is one of 53 national-level high-tech zones in China and the only national-level high-tech zone in Guizhou Province.

The development zone covers a construction area of 6.52 square kilometers and is divided into the “Jinyang Science and Technology Industrial Park” and the “Xintian Science and Technology Industrial Park.” The zone features various industrial bases and incubators, including the Knowledge Economy Industrialization Base, the National China (Guiyang) Chip Component Industrial Park, the Pharmaceutical Industrial Park, the Guizhou Torch Software Park, the Entrepreneurship Park for Returned Overseas Chinese Scholars, and technology business incubators. The zone also has customs facilities and a bonded warehouse area. It is the most well-equipped and policy-favorable development zone in Guizhou for high-tech industry investment and high-tech entrepreneurship.

On December 26, 2017, the zone was designated as a National Intellectual Property Demonstration Park by the State Intellectual Property Office. On March 4, 2020, it was recognized as a National New Industrialization Industry Demonstration Base by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
