The Wanshan National Mine Park is in Wanshan Town, Tongren City, Guizhou Province. The main attractions in the park include the Mine Museum, the Theme Sculpture, the Underground Great Wall, the Xianren Cave, the Black Hole and the Yunnan Ladder. The plank road of Wanshan National Mine Park connects the park’s attractions. Standing on the plank road, tourists can also experience the excitement brought by the plank road along the cliff as they experience the industrial culture of the park.

Known as China’s “mercury capital”, Wanshan ranked top in Asia and No.3 worldwide for its mercury reserves. Mercury mining in Wanshan dates back to the Qin and Han dynasties, more than 2,000 years ago, when the mineral was widely used for making pigments. It has a rare 970-kilometer-deep underground mining tunnel and a mass of natural vermilion.

Despite the exhaustion of mine resources in recent years, Wanshan developed another specific industry related to mercury mining – tourism centered on mining culture. The old mercury mines were transformed into a national mine park that gives visitors an exciting array of exhibits about the history of mercury mining and the lifestyles of mining communities in the region.
