Maolan Karst Forest of Libo County, Guizhou and Guangxi borders is distributed over 200 square kilometers and concentrated contiguous karst forests with original solid nature. This area is called “the emerald on the belt of the earth” by the world.

The characteristic of the traditional Karst topography is stone desertification. Though it created some famous attractions, such as Yunnan Stone Forest and Huangguoshu Waterfall, it is still challenging for the poor soil covering the stones to provide an adequate breeding ground for the vegetation.

Maolan, a rare karst forest ecosystem, is unique globally at the same latitude since the forest coverage rate reaches 87.4%. There are 144 families of seed plants, 144 species of bryophytes, 163 species of macrofungi, over 300 species of vertebrates and over 170 species of rare animals and plants identified in the area. At the same time, Maolan Karst Forest, as a scenic resource, has detached itself from the fixed pattern of barren karst landforms, combining mountains, water, caves, forests and lakes.

The landscape of forest landforms and hydrological terrain add radiance to each other, just like a fairy scene in the world. Therefore, some scientists are interested in this place and many tourists would like to explore this natural Karst forest.
