Site of Zunyi Conference

In Zunyi, one red tourist attraction that you cannot miss for sure is the Site of Zunyi Conference. On 15 January 1935, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China convened the Extended Conference of the Political Bureau in Zunyi, also called Zunyi Conference, and set up the three-person military command group headed by Mao Zedong and attended by Zhou Enlai and Wang Jiaxiang. It was the Zunyi Conference that made the CPC Central Committee and the Red Army turn defeat into victory, transform a crisis into safety, and successfully complete the 25,000-Li Long March. Exhibits in the memorial museum at the Site of Zunyi Conference are mainly about the Long March, displayed in a chronological order under special themes. Taking advantage of materials and techniques available, the Museum shows the exhibits with cutting-edge technologies. Nowadays, the building still stands in the old town of Zunyi, waiting for visitors to acquaint themselves with this far-reaching historical fragment.

24-Zig Road

“24-Zig Road” is a landmark on the Yunnan-Burma Highway and a signature of the Stilwell Road during China’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. It is a critical witness of the joint efforts of the Chinese and American peoples against Fascism. The Road is located in Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture in the southwest of Guizhou Province. The straight-line distance from the foot to the top of the mountain is about 350 meters, with a vertical height of about 260 meters. The zigzag road was built on a 60-degree slope of the mountain in the shape of “S”, winding to the gate of a pass with about 4 kilometers in length in total. It is renowned as “a lifeline in the wartime”.

Sidu Chishui (Four Chishui River Crossings) Memorial Hall

Situated in Tucheng Town, Xishui County of Guizhou Province, the Sidu Chishui (Four Chishui River Crossings) Memorial Hall covers a land area of more than 7,000 m2, with a construction area of more than 3,000 m2. The Memorial Hall is built in the style of folk dwellings in Northern Guizhou. Inside the Hall, pictures, articles and objects are displayed combining audio, lighting, electronic and other technical means, highlighting the whole process of the battle of the Four Chishui River Crossings. It was a decisive mobile battle of the Red Army of the CPC Central Committee on the way of the Long March, with more than 40 big or small combats, and the distance of movement reaching thousands of Li. Mao Zedong, with his extraordinary wisdom and courage, and flexible strategies and tactics, finally got rid of the chase and siege of the enemy.

Loushan Pass

Loushan Pass is located at the juncture of Zunyi and Tongzi in Guizhou, with an altitude of 1,576 meters. It is an important crossing on the main traffic road between Sichuan and Guizhou Provinces. Dated back to the Ming Dynasty, soldiers once had fierce battles with local chieftains here. Loushan Pass is known as the First Strategic Pass in Northern Guizhou, and it is said that “If one man guards the pass, ten thousand are unable to get through”. It was here that the Chinese Red Army won the battle of Loushan Pass in February 1935. Today, surrounded by magnificent landscape, inaccessible cliffs, and hanging peaks in grotesque and various shapes, Loushan Pass becomes the symbol of mother country, homeland and new hope.

Xifeng Concentration Camp

Xifeng Concentration Camp in Guizhou is a large-scale and high-grade secret prison under strict management set up by the Military Affairs Commission of Kuomintang in Xifeng during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression. It is one of the four concentration camps of the Kuomintang in the wartime, together with Bai Mansion and Zhazi Cave Prison in Chongqing and Shangrao Concentration Camp in Jiangxi. From being established in 1938 to being abolished in 1946, it had imprisoned more than 1,200 communists, patriotic generals and patriotic democrats. Today, wandering in the Xifeng Concentration Camp Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is like going over a piece of history with blood and fire intertwined. As the wheel of history rolls on, the revolutionary spirit will never be forgotten.

Site of Liping Conference

Located in Defeng Town, Liping County of Guizhou Province, the Site of Liping Conference is a stately and secluded building of Qing Dynasty, covering a land area of nearly 1,000 m2, encircled by a fire-proof wall of about 20 meters in height. On 18 December 1934, the first meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee during the Red Army’s Long March was convened here, which is known as the “Liping Conference”. This meeting pointed out the right direction for the strategic shift of the Red Army of the Central Committee. This ordinary civilian house became an important revolutionary cultural relic due to the Liping Conference, and was listed as a Cultural Relics Protection Unit of Guizhou Province in 1982 and upgraded to a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level in 2006.
