For those who have little knowledge about the Grand Songs of the Dong Ethnic Group, let me explain first. Grand Songs of the Dong Ethnic Group, is known as “ga lao” in Dong language, where “ga” means song and “lao” means grand. Dating back to the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States Periods, it has a history of over 2.500 years. As China’s earliest-discovered and internationally recognized polyphonic, multi-part singing performed without instrumental accompaniment or a conductor, the Grand Songs has been regarded as one of the representative works of the Intangible Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO. When we arrived, the first song – Singing the Dong Ballads, just began. Without instrumental accompaniment, the 24 singers made the whole room tremble with their beautiful singing. Now, let’s enjoy the performance on the spot with my exclusive broadcast.
